DraftKings Officially Launches Daily Fantasy Sports in Australia

It’s official! DraftKings' daily fantasy sports services are now live in Australia. The controversial US-based daily fantasy sports (DFS) company announced its plans to expand to Australia after the Northern Territory Commission approved its license in April this year. Earlier this week, DraftKings announced that its daily fantasy sports product was now available in Australia. On Sunday, the company was already taking wagers from Aussie sports enthusiasts interested in testing their sports knowledge against other local and international gamblers.
"DraftKings’ DFS product takes sports fans’ game experience to another level, keeping them more engaged with their favourite athletes, teams and codes," said Jeffrey Haas, the Chief International Officer for DraftKings.
"Australia is home to some of the most passionate sports fans in the world and that’s a key reason why DraftKings decided to open there.
"We're confident Australians will enjoy the exciting and innovative competition formats we have available across ten international sports, and their ability to compete against other people, both local and international," he enthused.
What are Daily Fantasy Sports?
Daily Fantasy Sports or DFS is a contest of skill. Whether daily, weekly or traditional format, DFS are not different from season-long sport in playing. However, DFS take a much shorter time. Depending on the type of sport, they can take from one day to a week.
Up to 1.65 million Australians are reported to be into Daily Fantasy Sports.
More so, when contesting on DFS, bettors have to select a team of players based the players' salary bracket. Then the players get to earn points based on their performance. DFS contests come in three different skill tiers namely; Beginners, Casual and Leagues.
