Controversy Erupts Over Partner in Australian Gambling Site Found To Be Under Police Investigation
Added: November 30, 2013
An amount of controversy has sprung up in Australia, due to the discovery that one of the secret partners of popular online sports betting site bookmaker.com is currently under investigation by the Police Integrity Commission.
The man in question, Steve Fletcher, is a notorious Australian online gambling personality, who is alleged to have used the online casino accounts of police officers to cover his online gambling tracks. It has been discovered that at one time, he owned half a million shares in the Australian company, Gaming Investments, which at the time, was the owner of bookmaker.com. Just a few month back, major UK based online gambling company Ladbrokes, purchased bookmaker.com, lock stock and barrel, for $22.5 million.
The Police Integrity Commission currently has an ongoing investigation into allegations that two senior police officers were involved with Mr. Fletcher in behavior that can be deemed as criminal. These two police officials, as well as several others, are said to have allowed Mr. Fletcher and an associate to use their online casino accounts, this cloaking their identities and allowing them to play at online gambling sites where they had both been previously banned from playing at.
The Police Integrity Commission has presented some pretty convincing evidence making its case against the two punters, and their police co-conspirators, and this includes quite a lot of recorded telephone conversations. Much of the content of which appears to be quite damning.
It has been said that the police officers were paid up to $500 to provide drivers licenses, credit cards and other forms of identification to enable the two gamblers to continue online gambling at online casino sites by setting up new identities.
This is a pretty interesting story to have emerged, and we will await to see the results of the enquiry into this behavior that the Police Integrity Commission is undertaking. Allegations against senior police are a serious affair, and something that online gambling companies must take seriously. It is unclear whether Ladbrokes will have any involvement in these investigations, as they purchased bookmaker.com after the events are alleged to have taken place. Either way, it will be very interesting to see what crawls out of the woodwork during the investigation being undertaken into illegal online gambling activity by the Police Integrity Commission, and we will certainly keep an eye on this news as the situation becomes clearer, and report back on it.
